ALEXANDER, Dounne

Born in Trinidad, Dounne Alexander emigrated with her parents to Britain in 1962 and worked for some years as a chemical/bacteriological technician and housing officer.  In the 1980s, with no formal training or experience, she established her herbal food manufacturing business, ‘GRAMMAS’, named in memory of her grandmother.  Displaying exceptional marketing skills, she convinced most of the leading supermarket chains to sell and distribute her products.  She has won numerous national awards, including one for most outstanding British small business and another as ‘Black Businesswoman of the Millennium’.
