An outstanding singer guitarist and songwriter, Joan Anita Barbara Armatrading was born in Basseterre, St Kitts, on 9 December 1950 and raised in Birmingham, England. Her uncanny ability to range from folk to pop to rock and jazz and even to reggae had won her two Grammy nominations, 18 gold records and 10 platinum albums in seven countries by 1980 before she was thirty years old. Her biggest UK hit songs perhaps have been Love and Affection; Me, Myself and I, and Drop the Pilot. Her most successful albums include Track Record (1983); The Very Best of Joan Armatrading (1991); Love and Affection; Best of Joan Armatrading (1999), and Love and Affection: Classics (2003).
