Naomi Campbell, the famous British supermodel, actress, singer and author was born to Jamaican parents in Streatham, south London, on 22 May 1970. She studied at the London Academy For Performing Arts and the Italia Conti Academy. She made her first public appearance in 1978 when she played the role of a pupil in a music video with the great Jamaican reggae singer, Bob Marley She switched from acting to modelling and soon became the first black supermodel to grace the cover of Vogue. She modelled for several international designers and forged for twelve years (1987-99) a very close relationship with Versace. She created a company, NC Connect, and launched a fragrance, named after herself, in 2000. Naomi also appeared in a few films, including Miami Rhapsody and Prêt-à-Porter. A ghost-written novel, entitled Swan, was published under her name in 1996. She has done a great deal of charity work for the children and people of Africa and participated in a ‘Fashion Relief’ for Hurricane Katrina victims in 2005 which raised over a million dollars.
